Bocking 14 Comfrey Large Crown Cuttings 300g

£18.00

You are buying 3 Large (300g) organically grown Bocking 14 Comfrey (Symphytum x uplandicum) Crown Cuttings.

Our large cuttings come in various sizes, approximately 100g each, occasionally we supply an extra one if they are a little under weight.

A fast-growing clump-forming, deciduous erect perennial with oblong green leaves. Flowers are purple blue from spring through to summer. A dynamic accumulator, plant food, mulch and excellent bee plant.

This plant is a sterile hybrid, so it will stay where you plant it. It will not self-seed and is non-invasive. It can be easily further propagated by root or crown cuttings, to create a Comfrey patch to supply food and mulching for your entire garden.

Organically and sustainably grown in our woodland here at Poet’s Acre, located in the heart of 1000 acres of organic farmland and ancient woodland in rural North Norfolk.

Plants are lifted to order as part of a sustainable management plan that encourages diversity and resilience. The land here is completely organic, we do not use pesticides, or sprays of any kind.

Plant care

Your cuttings will arrive carefully packaged to prevent drying out. They have been watered then inoculated with mycorrhizal spores to encourage strong and healthy regrowth.

Remove from packaging as soon as possible and plant 2 inches deep in large pots or final positions. Maximum spacing 3 feet between plants, more closely for a dense cover.

Cuttings will take several months to establish and put forth leaves quicker than root cuttings. In the second season you will see significant growth. Plants become dormant in the autumn and grow vigorously in the spring.

Garden Uses

Comfrey is a dynamic accumulator, an excellent plant food and soil amendment. It can be used directly as a mulch, made into a ‘tea’, or fermented to make a liquid feed. It is a very good ground cover and rhizome barrier for edges, limiting the spread of other plants and grasses. Leaves can be cut several times a season producing a mass of thick nutritious leaves.

Wildlife Uses

Comfrey is an excellent bee plant, beloved of all kinds of bees. With masses of flowers, it will attract these beneficial pollinators in their droves.
